Target species are a wide variety of fall migrant/wintering waterfowl, waders including Snowy Egret and Sandhill Crane, raptors and a variety of wetland, open pasture, cropland and bottomland forest species. This trip enters private land with specific limited access for our group, and is adjacent to waterfowl hunting areas. This is an excellent opportunity to view the usually inaccessible Post Office Lake.
We will start at the Vancouver Lake flushing channel, then move toward the end of Lower River Road and walk on the old paved access road to Post Office Lake, an important wintering area on Ridgefield NWR for waterfowl (especially Canvasbacks). Other areas could include Frenchman’s Bar Park and the Shillapoo Wildlife Area from different access points. Trip will end around noon. Bring your Discover Pass, County Park Pass and spotting scope if you have them.
