VOLUNTEER - Spread the Love
Come spread the Valentine's Day love to trees and shrubs by spreading mulch around young plants along the Burnt Bridge Creek Greenway. In December, Urban Forestry and the Greenways Team hosted an event where volunteers planted approximately 250 young trees and shrubs. At this event, we will be spreading protective mulch around those plants to help retain moisture around their roots while they get established over the next few years.
In addition to moisture retention, properly mulching young trees also helps insulate them against extreme temperatures, discourages weed growth and root competition, and reduces the chance of potentially fatal lawn mower damage. Please join us in showing these plants a little love so they can grow up to be healthy, mature members of our urban forest.
We will be meeting near NE 93rd Ave. & NE 30th Cir. with street parking available along NE 93rd Ave. More detailed instructions will be sent out in a confirmation email the week of the event.
Training, gloves, tools, water, snacks and warm beverages will be provided.
This opportunity is family friendly and people of all ages and abilities are welcome! Volunteers should dress for the weather and wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Youth under 18 must bring a signed minor consent form.
