Green Neighbors Program

The Clark County Green Neighbors Program was developed and is maintained by Clark County Solid Waste and Environmental Outreach to assist citizens with developing more sustainable lifestyles and building a strong environmental community in Clark County. Solid waste regional planning and programs are a cooperative effort of Battle Ground, Camas, Clark County, La Center, Ridgefield, Vancouver, Washougal, and Yacolt. Funding for this project provided by a grant from the Washington State Department of Ecology.

Green Neighbors turns 6!

We're very excited about our anniversary, and all that Green Neighbors has accomplished this year. We've invited Portland blogger Jenica Barrett of Zero Waste Wisdom to celebrate with us and teach us about her zero waste life. Enjoy a cupcake and listen in as Jenica shares her experiences with sustainability, and tells us all about the #onejarchallenge! Learn more about the challenge below - there's a chance you could win an iPAD!

This is a FREE event! Sunday, October 28, from 2-4pm at the Water Resources Education Center (4600 SE Columbia Way, Vancouver).

#onejarchallenge

TAKE THE ONE JAR CHALLENGE

"Slowly the challenge became an interest," Jenica describes, "which lead to more research, which lead to fascination, which lead to me being where I am today - a 'zerowaster'." The Challenge entails tracking your waste for one week - by refusing, reducing, reusing, recycling and composting as much as possible - and fitting any waste you do produce into a jar that you can review at the end of your experience. This will allow you to see where your trash comes from and if you can continue to produce as little waste as possible.

At the celebration, attendees will receive a free mason jar to participate in the Challenge (taking place for one week using social media), as well as other freebies and incentives. Those who complete the week-long Challenge will also be entered into a drawing to win an IPAD. A birthday party would not be complete without presents (and cupcakes), so you can expect both!

Green Neighbors is excited to celebrate with all of you. Whether you read our newsletter and blog, get your hands dirty in our demonstration gardens, or are just curious to learn more about us and get involved to help the Earth, you are all our green neighbors! We have greatly enjoyed serving Clark County the last 6 years, and are looking forward to many more.
