To-go cups 'to-go' in the trash

Rain or shine, it is all too convenient to grab a coffee, soda, or other tasty beverage while on the go. After you've gulped down the refreshing drink, what do you do with the empty cup, lid and straw? Make it an easy habit of tossing it all in the trash after you're through with it.

Why does it matter?

In Clark County, these items are considered trash. By putting them in your blue cart, you're mixing in garbage with recycling, or in other words, contaminating the good recyclables. This reduces our ability to properly recycle the material that is collected at the curb.

If you're ever unsure if an item can go in the recycle cart, search for keywords in our A-Z Directory. Download the FREE RecycleRight app or view the web tool at recyclingdoneright.com.

 Reduce your waste!

Many places are now allowing customers to bring in their own reusable cup and may even offer a small discount. Relevant Coffee, Jamba Juice and Starbucks are just a few businesses encouraging folks to bring in a clean, reusable tumbler to fill up with your favorite beverage. If you're unsure your local spot allows you to bring your own cup, just ask!

As you sip your way through the seasons, please remember to toss to-go cups, lids, and straws in the trash.
