Cover Crops Workshop

Tuesday, October 04, 2016, 07:00pm

This presentation will address maintaining soil health and nutrient value throughout the winter season, primarily focusing on cover crops. It will include additional ways to keep the soil healthy and maintaining good tilth in-between growing seasons. Vegetable gardens for backyard gardeners will be addressed; commercial uses may be discussed if there is interest. This presentation will primarily be a very open dialogue with background slides, and questions and interaction with the audience are strongly encouraged.

Naomi's Organic Farm Supply specializes in both certified organic and conventional Cover Crop and pasture seed, for gardeners, farmers and vineyards. Focusing on seed grown in the Pacific Northwest whenever possible, for a very affordable price. They enjoy supporting local seed growers, lowering transportation costs and helping to create very fertile, well loved soil.

Gwen Bartonek's garden education started on family farms in the midwest and their greenhouse in Alaska, which was surrounded by many moose. She has been teaching 'Seed to Supper' classes for the Oregon Food Bank for the past three years and has an AAS in Horticulture and Landscape Design, along with studying Natural Resource Management at OSU. She worked for McMenamins Edgefield as an Edible Landscaper and with Portland Community Gardens.
