April 1–7 2024
Food Waste Prevention Week is a national sustainability campaign where 48 states, 11 countries and over 600 organizations inspire their communities to stop food waste in the first place. The campaign seeks to reframe the way we think about our food and aims to amplify sustainable food waste prevention tricks and reduce the amount of organic material sent to the landfill. As impassioned advocates for reducing local households’ environmental impacts, the Clark County Solid Waste Education and Outreach team has joined this movement to spread awareness about the impact of food waste. Their work is driven forward by House Bill 1799 and the Washington State Department of Ecology's statewide goal to reduce food waste by 50% before 2030.

Food Waste Prevention Podcast
This year, Clark County’s Solid Waste Education and Outreach programs are hosting a five-episode podcast series in partnership with Washington State University Vancouver’s student run radio station, KougRadio, to bring expert-led discussions on hot topics around food waste.
Creative Cooking Class
In addition to the podcast series, the Clark County programs will host an in-person event in collaboration with the Vancouver Community Library and Washington State University Clark County Extension SNAP-Ed. Guest speaker Stacey Tigner-Loy will lead an interactive “Cooking with Leftovers on a Budget” workshop to educate participants about mindful purchasing, storing and cooking. Stacey's innovative approach to cooking with leftovers and transforming ingredients into delicious meals has inspired many to embrace their culinary creativity and reduce food waste in their kitchens.
Join us on Wednesday, April 3 from 6:00–7:30 at the Cascade Park Community Library.
