Why Are Thrift, Vintage and Consignment Stores Beneficial?
Buying from a thrift, vintage or consignment store is often a more affordable way to get items for the holidays than shopping at brand name stores. Thrift stores accept donations for used items such as clothing, appliances, toys, and more and resell them at a lower price than brand new items. At consignment stores, you can give them your old clothes to sell and receive a part of the profits. What thrift, consignment, and vintage stores all have in common is that they help prevent waste. For instance, it takes an average of 1,800 gallons of water to produce one pair of new jeans. Instead of throwing out old clothes, they can end up in someone else's closet. This is great because not only does it prevent waste buildup in landfills, but it helps the environment and preserves natural resources.

Here at Green Neighbors, we have a staff member who's a big advocate for shopping at thrift stores. Our team member Henry chooses to shop for clothes at thrift stores because of the affordability and variety that's available.
I've found clothes for working, dressing up, and casual endeavors. I've found brand-name items that would go for ten times the price in a brand-name store, but they were significantly cheaper at the thrift store. It's nice to know I'm reducing my carbon footprint by putting clothes to reuse instead of buying new.
