Youth Photography Walks at Steigerwald Lake NWR

Thursday, April 05, 2018, 05:30pm

Students ages 10-18 years old, you are invited to Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge to improve your photography skills, learn about the Refuge and wildlife, and find out where different animals like to hang out throughout the Refuge. Walk leader, Ken Pitts, offers techniques on taking incredible photos from macro to action shots. Ken taught high school science for over 30 years before moving to Portland and changed his career slightly to working with Oregon Metro. As a Secondary Outreach Specialist he leads in classroom lessons on sustainability related topics like climate change, consumption, and recycling. He has been birding at Steigerwald for the past 5 years and has seen and photographed 154 of the 200 species of birds seen on the Refuge. Some of his photos can be seen at

This walk is offered in conjunction with our Youth Photography Contest sponsored by Pro Photo Supply. Click the link to see requirements and where to submit your photos. The contest is open for youth 10-18 and the last day to submit is May 1st!

There are 4 dates and times available, choose the day that works for you! If you would like to attend multiple walks, please sign up for one and then wait to see if the other walks fill. We want to encourage as many people as possible to participate.

Youth under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or gaurdian.
