Alaska-cedar is notable within the cypress family for its tolerance of cool and wet conditions. The climate of its natural range is cool and humid. Climatic conditions at elevations where Alaska-cedar grows in the Cascade Range of Washington are somewhat comparable to those at sea level in coastal Alaska
'Nidifera' is unique dfoer an Alaskan cedar as the branching is more refined and showy wit grey-gree feathery foliage. When staked upright at an early age it is said that it creates a spreading conical shape rarely reaching higher than 8 ft inn height. When left unstaked the form is more spreading and shorter and may reach 4-5 ft in height by 5-6 ft in width in 10 years.
