Dirt Hugger Organic Compost Discount May 1-31

Compost-Food-Scraps

What's Going On?

Vancouver landscaping supply store Sundance Rockery is offering a discount on organic compost! If you go to the store and mention "Waste Connections Recycling" you will receive a 25% discount on Dirt Hugger compost. The discount is available until May 31, 2023, and only for bulk quantities starting at ¼ yard.

Sign Up for Organics Service!

If you live within the city limits of Vancouver or Ridgefield, you can sign up for Organics service through Waste Connections. Customers with Organics service can put food scraps and yard debris in their green cart for every-other-week service. Collected material is sent to Dirt Hugger in Dallesport, Washington, where it's turned into nutrient-rich compost that's available for purchase at local garden and landscaping stores. The service helps reduce the amount of food and yard debris in the landfill and puts it to a more sustainable use.

What are the benefits of using compost?

Compost is mainly used as a soil amendment, mulch material, or an ingredient in soil blends or potting media. Compost helps build healthy soil and plants by:

  • Increasing soil organic matter
  • Improving soil structure and fertility
  • Increasing soil drainage and resistance to erosion from wind and water
  • Increasing soil water and nutrient holding capacity
  • Moderating soil pH, which improves nutrient availability for plants
  • Supporting beneficial soil microbes that recycle nutrients and protect plants from disease
Saving time and money is an additional benefit of adding compost to soil. Healthy soils need less water, fertilizer and pesticides to support healthy plants!
