Space is filling up for the 2020 Master Composter Recycler Training Program
If you're interested in composting and recycling, if you want a sustainable future, and if you want to be part of a great community, consider becoming a Master Composter Recycler. This volunteer training provides you with the tools and knowledge to build a hot compost pile, tend a worm bin, reduce your own waste, and ultimately educate others in effective waste reduction.
Participants attend a 10-session (40 hour) course that offers in-depth training on the following topics: biology of composting, composting methods, troubleshooting, biology and fundamentals of home worm composting, kitchen scrap composting, volunteer outreach methods, waste reduction, water quality and conservation, compost use, general solid waste issues, recycling and precycling.
Trained volunteers deliver this education through Backyard Composting workshops, composting how-to information, low-cost Community "wormshops," composting demonstration sites, teacher worm bin workshops, and speakers for neighborhood or community groups. The program also offers composting books and a reduced price compost bin for purchase.
Upon graduating as a Master Composter Recycler, participants share what they learn with the Clark County community. Master Composter Recyclers "payback" their training with community service hours. They represent the program at community events such as fairs and farmers markets; teach and host workshops and lectures; grow redworms for wormshops, maintain compost demonstration sites, and share their knowledge with neighbors and community groups.
2020 MCR Training
Applications are being accepted now for the 2020 MCR training. Classes are scheduled Wednesday evenings (6 pm - 8:30 pm, unless otherwise noted), January 22 – March 26, 2020. View the Master Composter Recycler 2020 Training Syllabus for more details.
