Welcome New AmeriCorps Member, Saré!

Sare

Hello! I am Saré Campbell, the newest AmeriCorps member for Clark County Public Health. I will serve as both the Green Business Outreach Coordinator and the Clark County Green Schools Outreach Coordinator.

I grew up in Moultonborough, New Hampshire, where I spent most of my childhood hiking with my family, boating with friends, and cross-country ski racing with my high school. I attended college at Montana State University and graduated in 2021 with a B.S. in Geology. During my undergrad, I spent three years conducting research age-dating rock samples from the Bridger Mountain Range. I won an undergraduate research grant from MSU and traveled to the University of Arizona to analyze the samples at their geochronology laboratory. Also during my time in Bozeman, I volunteered frequently with a nonprofit promoting sustainability through community building and education. We began coordinating a zero-waste coalition to promote businesses to conduct waste audits and begin the transition to a sustainable business model. I also helped implement a citywide reusable bag program that raised grant money for other local nonprofits and gave the community an opportunity for social change.

After graduation, I continued west and arrived in Vancouver, WA! I have loved living in the Pacific Northwest, frequently rock climbing, backpacking, and downhill skiing. Delving deeper into the culture of the area, I spent this past summer working in Alaska as a Salmon tender. It was amazing to witness the functionality of one of the United States' most sustainable fisheries and appreciate Salmon's wonder.

Throughout my service as an AmeriCorps member, I will be focused mainly on food waste reduction and prevention. As the Green Business Outreach Coordinator, I am most excited to work with local businesses to educate and strategize effective ways to reduce waste, recycle, and compost food scraps. With the Green Schools Program, I am excited to see the effects of the sort tables as the program grows throughout Clark County, preventing food waste and encouraging student leadership. I am very passionate and grateful for the opportunity to work with the community of Vancouver and help make the state an even better place to live.
